Our School

Lighthouse School is a school for gifted and insatiable learners ages 6-18.

Students come from all over the Twin Cities metropolitan area of Minnesota to experience a learning model that emphasizes autonomy with purpose. Open enrollment is welcome. Lighthouse is co-located with Spring Lake Park High School providing students with access to high school courses including Advanced Placement and other college credit-bearing opportunities.

The Spring Lake Park Schools' approach to personalized learning comes to life for Lighthouse students as they pursue an inquiry-based approach to learning based on student interests and aligned to our academic and career and life competencies. Learning is self-directed with the support and guidance of facilitators who work closely with students to design their learning using time, space and resources flexibly.

Students:

  • More than 70 students ages 6-18

  • Engagement in all the academic and career and life competencies with flexibility in pace

  • Support for the unique attitudes, emotions and tendencies of gifted learners

Students work in a shared study space

Special Times:

  • Field trips and occasional extended learning days send students out into the community for learning that can't be done easily at school.

  • Students spend time each day with multiage peers doing work at a similar level and interest.

  • The Lighthouse Talent show, curriculum experiences, and events supported by an active parent community bring families into Lighthouse to engage with each other and the learning community.

Lighthouse students attend a field trip at the Pavek Museum about communications
